Consultation has concluded

The Planning Staff proposes changes to the requirements for Detached Accessory Dwelling Units (detached ADUs or DADUs). Currently they are allowed on 15,000 square foot lots or larger. This proposal will lower it to 14, 520 which is exactly a third an acre.

The proposal would also limit detached ADUs on steep slopes. Restricting them on slopes greater than 20% and requiring grading plans from 10-20% slopes. The goal is for the safety of the homeowners, renters, and neighbors. Building on steep slopes comes with a lot of risk, and there is a lot of potential for DADUs to be built without the same intense engineering that the original subdivision was. This would increase the risk of landslides and property damage for everyone in the area. If it is fully engineered, it will be very expensive not increasing housing affordability which is the goal of ADUs.
